With a knowledgeable local guide and driver, visit the great Karlstejn Castle just southwest of Prague.

This impressive Gothic castle was used by Emperor Charles IV to house the coronation jewels and holy relics. The castle was completed in 1365 with the consecration of the chapel. In the following years, the castle experienced several exterior changes, from gothic to renaissance to its most recent neo-gothic style.

Inside, you will find a unique collection of 14th century paintings, including 129 panels done by Master Theodoric in the chapel and a gallery containing portraits of Czech rulers. Also on display is a replica of the Holy Roman Emperor’s crown as well as the Czech coronation crown also referred as "the crown of St. Wenceslas".
