Kutna Hora Excursion
Explore the Financial Centre of old Czech

Duration: 6-hours

With a knowledgeable local guide and driver, stroll through the mining town of Kutna Hora, once at the center of Czech's financial industry.

The ancient silver mining town was founded in the 13th century, and used as a primary location for the country's minting. The building now known as the Italian Court housed the mint in the 14th century. The wealth that silver mining brought to Kutna Hora gradually showed through improvements to the town; wooden buildings rebuilt with stronger material, churches established, and economic prosperity. Through the years however, the town faced financial woes as they struggled to develop techniques to mine further.

The town is full of splendid Gothic monuments. Tour the Italian Court, the former royal mint which once coined so-called Prague groschen. Pass by the Stone Fountain or stop into the silver museum. Visit Gothic St. Barbara Cathedral with its valuable murals and other churches of Gothic and Renaissance styles. Venture out to the Sedlec Ossuary, or the Bone Chapel that houses candelabras and other decorations made from human bones.

Note: The Ossuary and Bone Chapel may not be suitable for younger children.
