Terezin Excursion
Explore the Effects of the Holocaust in Czech

Duration: 6-hours; up to 7-hours with Lidice Memorial

With a knowledgeable English-speaking driver and guide, step back into the remnants of World War II with a visit to the ghetto Terezin, with an optional stop at the Lidice Memorial.

The Terezin “camp-ghetto” was established late-1941 and was used as a holding camp for Jews who were deported to the eastern concentration camps until 1945. The ghetto was used for propaganda by the Nazis to depict Jewish life in the new settlements, but living conditions in Terezin were poor and the prisoners were malnourished and worked to exhaustion. Despite this, they tended a cultural life, schooled the children with a large number of the Jews being artists and intellectuals.

Within the camp, you will visit the Ghetto Museum and learn about the history that unfolded in this holding camp. View the Magdeburg Barracks and see the living quarters of the Jews, as well as a hidden prayer hall they established. Also take a look into the cemetery, crematorium, and other important aspects of Jewish life in the ghetto.

While you are visiting Terezin, you may wish to make a stop by the Lidice Memorial. The town was a growing anti-fascist establishment that threatened the Nazi occupation. June 10, 1941, the town was razed to the ground and all the inhabitants were executed. The memorial consists of a monument to the town and a rose garden. There is also a museum with records as well as the documentary film from that fateful day.
