With a knowledgeable English-speaking driver, enjoy a Full Day glimpse of the Loire Valley which is heralded for its architectural heritage and historic towns. Visit the castles of the valley including the impressive castle of Chambord, then visit the castle of Blois, the charming village, the castle of Amboise, and finally the castle of Chenonceau.
Begin your day with a visit to the Castle of Chambord, one of the loveliest, and largest, Renaissance buildings in the Loire Valley. Between Medieval and Renaissance architectural forms, the castle was built as a hunting lodge for King Francis I. Since then it became a retreat for French kings, most notably Louis XIV. It was here at Chambord that French dramatist Molière's play “Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme” was performed for the first time in 1670 for Louis XIV and his court.
You will then proceed to the City and Castle of Blois. Built like an amphitheater on the right bank of the Loire, dominated by the silhouettes of the castle, the Cathedral, the Basilique and the spires of St. Nicolas, Blois is a representative city molded by the Renaissance. Here, you will visit the royal apartments, which are richly furnished and decorated with magnificent polychromatic decorations sets. Next, proceed to the Castle of Amboise. This emblematic monument and its landscaped gardens offer one of the most remarkable panoramas of the Loire Valley.
Finally, you will end your time in the Loire with a visit to the Castle of Chenonceau. Built over the river Cher, this exceptional site is known for its collections and decoration. Built in 1513, this castle has a long history of being administrated and protected by women; known as the “Ladies Castle”, it was embellished by Diane de Poitiers, then Catherine de Medici.
