This wine and city tour will start in Avignon, The City of the Popes. Enjoy a promenade around the main monuments including the Palace of the Pope, the biggest Gothic palace in Europe, the Pont d’Avignon, or the Cathedrale des Doms. Then join Villeneuve les Avignon, a famous residential suburb of Avignon. After your lunch break overlooking the wine yards, find out more about the famous AOC label of Chateauneuf du Pape quality, world known wine-producing place, and discover producers in unique properties like Beaurenard and La Nerthe, among others. Prestigious for its history and its summer theater festival, Avignon embraces one of the biggest middle-age gothic palaces in the world, the 14th century Palais des Papes. Close by, enjoy a promenade around the 12th century Pont d’Avignon and discover the rocher des Doms and its cathedral.
Villeneuve-Lez-Avignon owes its prominence to those cardinals who, seeking a retreat from busy Avignon, established residences here. The stunning view from here of the “City of Popes” is one of the most renowned.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a medieval village on the side of a hill, guarded by the ruins of an ancient “château” towering above. From the chateau hill you have an outstanding view of the vineyards.
Pick-Up/Drop-Off: Your driver will pick you up from the lobby of your Provence region hotel (Aix, Avignon, Marseille, Provence). At the conclusion of the tour, the driver can return you to the hotel, or if you prefer, perhaps drop you off at a nearby restaurant for dinne (If choosing the latter, taxis back to the hotel are to be paid for locally).
