SIGHTSEEING AND EXCURSION
In the Steps of Michelangelo
Follow the Path of a True Renaissance Man

DURATION: UP TO 4-HOURS

Come along on an extraordinary tour that details the life and times of Michelangelo. Your expert local guide will start your tour at Casa Buonarroti, purchased in 1508 by Michelangelo. The property, never occupied by Michelangelo, was converted into a museum dedicated to the artist by his great nephew. Its collections include two of Michelangelo's earliest sculptures, the Madonna of the Steps and Battle of the Centaurs. It also houses an extensive library including the family's archive and some of Michelangelo's letters and drawings.

Continue your walking tour with a visit to the Church of Santa Croce where you will view the tombs of such notables as Galileo Galilei, Ugo Foscolo, Vittorio Alfieri, Macchiavelli, and Lorenzo Ghiberti. Here you will also find the tomb of Michelangelo crafted by Giorgio Vasari at the behest of the Medici family. Amongst its other treasures are works by Cimabue, Giotto, Donatello, Brunelleschi, and Vasari.

After leaving the church, you will head to Palazzo del Bargello (the old Florence jail) which is now the National Museum of Sculpture. Here you will follow the footsteps of Michelangelo from the garden of the Palazzo Medici, a school for painters and sculptures, where he was a pupil of Bertoldo di Giovanni.

For the last part of your journey, visit the Academy of Fine Arts (Accademia) which houses seven maserpieces of Michelangelo. Stop to appreciate the extraordinary beauty and majesty of the David, the four unfinished "Prigioni", the second of his famous "Pieta" and other unfinished works scuplted with his famous technique, the non-finito.
