Capri is one of the best known islands dominating the approach to Naples. In Roman times, the emperor Tiberius made it his capital. Its best attractions are definitely the natural ones. Paths criss-cross the mountainous landscape, plunging down to little coves where you can eat and swim, then soaring to high terraces with tremendous views. There are walks to the Arco Naturale (a natural rock arch), Tiberius' ruined Jupiter's Villa, and to the Marina Piccola, a tiny hamlet, where you can laze on a rock or dine on seafood. There are also boat trips to the beautiful sea cave, the Blue Grotto.

Marina Grande may be the port, but Capri town is the chic hub of the island.
