Set in a wide cleft in the cliffs, Amalfi is the largest town and perhaps the highlight of the coast. It has been an established seaside resort since Edwardian times, when the British upper class found the town a pleasant spot to spend their winters. Actually, Amalfi's credentials go back much further. It was an independent republic during Byzantine times and the city's traders established outposts all over the Mediterranean, setting up the Order of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. Amalfi was finally vanquished by the Normans in 1131, and devastated by an earthquake in 1343, but there is still the odd remnant of Amalfi's past glories around today. The town has a crumbly attractiveness to its whitewashed courtyards and alleys that makes it fun to wander through. 

Paestum was founded in 6^th century BC by Greeks as the city of Poseidon. Through the centuries, Paestum saw the Romans take the city (3^rd century BC), abandon it due to sickness and enemy assault (9^th century), then rediscover and maintain the beautiful Greek ruins (18^th century). These Greek ruins are what brings many visitors to the small site of Paestum. Its rich Greco-Roman history make it a fascinating destination. Three temples still stand from that time, the Temple of Hera I, Temple of Neptune, and Temple of Ceres. The museum holds artifacts found during the excavations and is worth a visit before or after taking a walk around the temple ruins.

Pick-up/Drop-off: Our driver will pick you up from your Positano Hotel. At the conclusion of the excursion you will be dropped back off at your hotel in Positano.
