Mt. Etna Wine Road Shore Excursion
A Tour for the Wine Aficionado!
DURATION: UP TO 8-HOURS
Mt. Etna is definitely one of the most exciting wine destinations worldwide.
The land around Mt. Etna is a large area extending from the furthest slopes of the volcano to its peak. Observe the magnificent terracing realized with stone walls running up and around the villa. The peculiar environment on Mt. Etna mixed with the particular climate, altitude, and exposure of soil produces some of the most special wines in all of Sicily.
Along with your English-speaking guide, you will see the what goes into making these fine wines. Nerello Mascalese is the most prized grape in this area. It is late-ripening (harvested in mid-October) with large clusters, large berries, thin skins and is thought to have arrived from ancient Greece, brought to Italy along the same route followed by the mythical hero Odysseus.
Mt. Etna is the perfect setting for monovarietal or blend wines: Inzolia, Nero d’Avola, Grillo, Frappato, Grecanico and Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Mondeuse, Syrah, and Petit Verdot. No other wine region in Italy is as exciting as Mt. Etna's! In just a few years, the number of winemakers on the volcano has doubled.
You will visit three different boutique wineries: Cottanera, Tenuta Chiuse del Signore, and Gambino (o Scilio). Wine lovers should not miss out on this fantastic tour!
